  • Hello and welcome to Financial Profundities, an ad-hoc e-newsletter designed to expand your knowledge on a variety of topics that impact your money and your life.

    A Special Announcement

Beauty. Leadership. Money. These three words have long been used to measure success and power. Historically, however, beauty, leadership and money have been narrowly defined, especially as applied to women. For example: beauty meant tall, blonde hair and blue-eyed; leadership meant power and control attained by any means necessary; and money meant creating wealth without regard to the well-being of others or having an "it's all about the Benjamin's" attitude.

It is true that the above definitions aptly describe some people; it is also true that they woefully miss the mark with regards to others. No judgment, simply a fact. The downside to subscribing to and marketing an incomplete definition of beauty, leadership and money is that doing so has the potential to limit the experience of success and power to a select few. An alternative is needed.

As many of you know, the Woodhull Institute for Ethical Leadership has been a long-standing client of ours. For more than five years, I have had the privilege of presenting our signature workshop, Stop Treating Your Money So Poorly(tm), as part of the organization's financial literacy initiative. Several years ago, Dove (the beauty brand) and Woodhull teamed up to bring Woodhull's leadership training - and by extension STYMSP - to women across the country. Providing an alternative is exactly what we have been doing individually, in our respective industries, and collectively in our work together. The result: three separate, yet inter-related, missions have come together for one common goal - to help women be and feel their best, inside and out! We've come together to help women define beauty, leadership and money - or success and power - on their own terms!!

On Monday, September 10, a three-year collaboration between Dove, Woodhull and Sterling culminated in the launch of an awesome 16-week online training initiative: Real Women, Real Success Stories. An abbreviated version of STYMSP kicks-off the training, followed by "Your Authentic Voice and Advocacy" facilitated by Robin Stern and Karla Jackson-Brewer, "Public Speaking" facilitated by Naomi Wolf (co-founder of Woodhull) and Tara Bracco and "Negotiation" facilitated by Susan H. Cain.

I am proud to be part of Real Women, Real Success Stories---proud to be part of a local, global and virtual effort to bring about meaningful and sustainable changes in the lives of people, more broadly, and women, specifically, in communities both small and large. And I invite you to take part in this ground-breaking endeavor also. Take ten-minutes each week to tune into a session - you will either learn something new or reinforce what you already know but rarely put into practice!

    Enjoy!

    "TalkingLive" Tele-Seminar Series

Mark your calendars for the next installment - Tuesday, 18 September!

One of the most perplexing aspects of managing your money and preparing for your future is retirement planning. I affectionately call this component of financial planning a "three-headed monster." So named because of the three factors you need to consider: current/anticipated finances, current/anticipated life-style and your emotions.

In the past, retirement planning tended to be singularly defined and focused almost exclusively on the numbers. But due to significant workplace and life-style changes, a "new" retirement planning approach is in order.

Join me next week as I interview Jason Murray, a financial advisor with Merrill Lynch. We'll talk about the ever-evolving retirement planning landscape and what you can do to benefit from these changes.

Here are the details for the ""Retirement Planning - A "New" Approach"" tele- seminar:

    Date: Tuesday, September 18, 2007

    Time: 8:00 - 9:00 p.m. To register, click here.

Purpose: To shed some light on how to tailor your retirement planning strategy to meet your personal definiton of retirement.

Stay tuned for more details about October and November's tele-seminars; they are, respectively: "Taxes: How to Minimize What You Render Unto Caesar" with Allen M. Harvey, CPA, MST and "Green with Envy," an author interview and book discussion with Shira Boss.

    UPCOMING - PUBLIC - WORKSHOPS:

Women, Money and Romance - the workshop is back!

Modeled after the workshop of the same name, we offer the Stop Treating Your Money So Poorly Workbook (tm). It is a 48-page workbook, which consists of ten worksheets that will provoke you to think about money differently, inspire you to identify and examine your habits and help you make the choices that are right for you, at the right time and in the right way. The workbook is $24.95; the PDF downloadable version is $19.95; both can be purchased directly from Sterling's website. Virtual training support is also provided with your purchase.
